One of 31 Aussies to play in MLB, Oeltjen made his major league debut in 2009 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He recorded his first major league hit, stolen base and home run in the same game, finishing the game 2-for-6 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Oeltjen holds a career .294 batting average through 14 seasons in the minor leagues spent between the Minnesota Twins, Arizona Diamondbacks, Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers systems. He spent the 2014 minor league season divided between the Toros de Tijuana of the Mexican League and the Reno Aces, the Diamondbacks' Triple A team.

Last year, Oeltjen put up MVP numbers in just 13 games with the Blue Sox, batting .435 with 4 HR and 14 RBIs before returning to the States. He has spent time playing for Team Australia as well and won a silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He donned the green and gold again for the 2005 Baseball World Cup, 2006 World Baseball Classic, 2007 Baseball World Cup, and 2009 World Baseball Classic.
