Georgia native Maddox joins the Bite for his first Australian professional season. The 29-year-old has a wealth of experience in both affiliated and independent baseball in the USA. Maddox played university baseball at Southeastern University (Florida), leading the team to consecutive NCCAA National Championships in his final two seasons. He was also named NCCAA Player of the Year in 2007. That year, Maddox signed as an undrafted free agent by the Detroit Tigers and played for the Rookie-level GCL Tigers, hitting .240 in 25 games before being released. Maddox's next shot at affiliated ball came in 2009, when the Atlanta Braves signed him. In between stints in affiliated ball, Maddox continued to ply his trade in various independent leagues, first with the New Jersey Jackals of the Canadian-American Association in 2008 and later with the Schaumburg Flyers of the Northern League in 2009. Since 2011 Maddox has played for the Gary SouthShore RailCats of the American Association. He had his best year as a utility for the RailCats in 2011, when he hit .321 with two home runs and 21 RBIs.
