A Melbourne native, Wearne has made a name for himself over the past decade plus as a mainstay in the Victorian baseball scene. He came up through the club ranks and played college baseball at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, USA, before being drafted in the 41st round of the 2001 MLB Amateur Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Wearne played professionally in the independent Canadian-American Association in 2010, logging a .300 batting average with two home runs and 35 RBIs in 297 at bats. That October, he joined his hometown Aces in the new ABL's inaugural season and enters his fifth season in Melbourne colours. He's played 139 games for the Melbourne Aces with a career line of .241/.309/.357 with 23 doubles and 53 RBIs.

Wearne brings a wealth of experience to the Aces year after year and will adjust to the dual-role of player/coach for the Aces' fifth anniversary season in 2014/15. He comes from a baseball family and his older sister Simone Wearne is also a baseball player. She currently serves as the head coach of the Australia women's national team, the Emeralds, and recently led the team to a third-place finish at the International Baseball Federation's Women's Baseball World Cup in Japan.
