Considered one of Korea's best pitchers, the legendary Koo has played more than two decades of professional baseball across the world including; Korea, Japan, U.S. and finally here in Australia. In 1996, Koo won both a Gold Glove Award and the League MVP of the Korean Baseball Organisation with a 1.88 ERA, 18 wins, 24 saves and 183 strikeouts in 139 innings pitched. Koo has also won ABL reliever of the year twice, 2010/11 and 2013/14.

Koo's most famous moment however came in his one and only season in MLB, when he played for the New York Mets. He holds a lifetime batting average of .333 after he hit a double against elite pitcher Randy Johnson in a game against the New York Yankees in 2005. Crowds were stunned when the then 35 year old rookie laced a ball off the wall in right-centrefield.
