2019/20 ABL Schedule Released
06/11/2019 7:49 PM ET

The 2019/20 ABL Schedule has been released with the Cavalry kicking off the season in a home series against the Melbourne Aces on 21 November.

Melbourne will be seeking revenge after the Cavalry eliminated them last season in the Inaugural ABL Wild Card Game en route to the ABL Semi Finals.

Following the opening series, the Cavalry will embark upon a road trip for the ages, heading to Perth in Round 2 before making the trip across the ditch to take on the Auckland Tuatara.

Following the mammoth road trip, Canberra will host back-to-back home series in what could easily be called the most exciting part of the schedule, facing conference rivals Sydney and Brisbane in the Capital.

In early January, Adelaide will make their first visit back to Canberra since 2017. Then the Cavalry will finish up the season with an in-conference gauntlet against Brisbane, Auckland, and Sydney.

Canberra Cavalry manager Keith Ward said this season will bring much excitement due to the level playing field and the improved Cavalry squad.

"This season looks like being one of the most exciting and competitive seasons in ABL history," said Ward.

"All Australian teams are aggressively recruiting to improve and Auckland and Geelong will be better after their inaugural ABL seasons.

The 2019/20 Cavalry roster will see returning Australian stars Steve Kent, Robbie Perkins, and David Kandilas along with key imports Zach Wilson and a strong contingent from the Yokohama DeNA BayStars. In addition, the Cavalry have bolstered the roster with some strong Australian arms.

"We have already added key pieces to our pitching staff and we have been working tirelessly to improve our play off squad from last season."

With two experienced ABL pitchers in Dushan Ruzic and Rhys Niit joining the Cavalry for the upcoming season, Ward hailed the duo and said that they will add so much to the squad.

"ABL veteran Dushan Ruzic will be a massive inclusion, Dushan was Melbourne's pitcher of the year after finishing in the league top 5 in ERA," he said.

"Long time Brisbane Bandits pitcher Rhys Niit brings experience, consistency and versatility."
