O'Loughlin lifts Bite to series lead
01/27/2018 2:32 AM ET

Adelaide edged Sydney 3-0 in game one of their doubleheader on the back of six scoreless innings from starter Jack O'Loughlin at Active Displays Stadium on Saturday.

The Bite broke a scoreless tie in the sixth on a passed ball before extending their advantage on fielding error and groundball by Curtis Mead.

Until that point it was a pitchers' duel at West Beach.

O'Loughlin tossed six scoreless innings in his return to the rotation.

The 17-year-old struck out six hitters and allowed three hits and two walks in his first start since November 24.

O'Loughlin's six innings matched his longest ever ABL outing.

Loek van Mil then worked a scoreless seventh inning, the last in a shorter game one of the doubleheader between the sides.

Blue Sox starter Clayton Freimuth allowed three runs - all unearned - on five hits while punching out five.

The Bite's win lifted them to consecutive victories for the first time this season after ending Sydney's playoff hopes with a 10-8 win on Friday night.

It also lifted Adelaide to its first series lead of the season.

The series wraps up with game two of the doubleheader shortly as the Bite chase their first series win of the campaign. #OurGame
