Cavalry extend record winning streak
01/20/2018 1:05 AM ET

Starter Frank Gailey tossed six scoreless innings as Canberra extended its franchise-record winning streak to eight games against Sydney on Saturday.

Gailey allowed one hit as the Cavs (21-12) shut out the Blue Sox (11-23) 2-0 in the early game of their doubleheader at Blacktown International Sportspark.

Cameron Warner handed Canberra - and Gailey - the lead in the second and they never looked back.

The ABL rookie doubled against Sydney starter Matthew Rae after the left-hander issued a one-out walk to Robbie Perkins

Rae dodged further damage in the frame, stranding a couple of runners when Travis Witherspoon grounded into a force out.

The Sox starter was otherwise solid despite walking six Cavs' hitters.

Rae allowed just the one run on three hits, punching out five as he worked through five innings.

But Gailey was a level above as he picked up a third win of the campaign.

The left-hander struck out seven and gave up two walks.

Only one Sydney hitter - Michael Suchy with two out in the first - got into scoring position against the 32-year-old.

Canberra doubled its advantage in the top of the sixth after Trevor Foss came out of the bullpen for the Sox.

Witherspoon doubled to drive in Moko Moanaroa (double) in his debut for the Cavs.

Canberra finished with six hits, all of them doubles.

Sydney ended the game with one hit after Michael Click worked a scoreless seventh out of the bullpen.

Game two of the doubleheader will start shortly #OurGame
