Lutz's three HR lift Bandits to sweep
01/14/2018 12:10 AM ET

Donald Lutz homered three times as Brisbane completed a sweep of its five-game series against Melbourne at Holloway Field on Sunday.

Lutz crushed his 11th, 12th and league-leading 13th homer of the season, producing just the sixth three-homer game in ABL history within hours of Canberra's Buddy Reed joining the exclusive club.

Lin Chih-sheng, Logan Wade and T.J. Bennett also went deep as the Bandits powered past Melbourne 15-8 in a makeup of their rained-out game from December 2.

Brisbane used a five-run third, ignited by Lutz's leadoff home run, to erase an early 4-2 deficit.

Lutz opened the inning with his league-leading 12th bomb of the season before T.J Bennett's RBI-single and Adam Weisenburger's two-run single gave the Bandits a lead.

Weisenburger's go-ahead shot led to Aces' starter Mark Hamburger's departure with the former big leaguer giving up seven runs on eight hits in 2 1/3 innings.

It followed the right-hander being charged with 10 runs on 13 hits in 2 1/3 innings during Brisbane's game one win on Thursday night.

But the Bandits punished Melbourne's bullpen just as much, with reliever Jackson Boyd taken deep three times in 2 2/3 innings.

Delmon Young added his fifth homer of the series - and 10th of the season - in the sixth but the Aces were unable to rally despite adding two runs in the bottom of the ninth in their home game away from home.

Brisbane (24-7) hosts Perth in a top-of-the-table series in round nine, starting on Thursday night.

Melbourne (12-20) returns home looking to cement its top-four spot against bottom-side Adelaide.
