Pre-Season Series 1 Game 1
10/24/2014 2:11 AM ET

17 October 2014 - The Alcohol. Think Again Perth Heat played the Braves Baseball Club in their first pre-season game on Friday, 16th October at Barbagallo Ballpark. While it was a valiant effort by both teams, the Heat prevailed with a 9-2 victory in 7 innings.

Shawn Sanford took the mound for the Heat and looked in mid-season form by pitching 5 shutout innings. Sanford was relieved by Adam Millson who took the hill in the 6th and Chen closed out the victory for the Heat.

The game started in Heat fashion with a line drive triple to left by import, Brian Pointer. Then he was driven in by Tim Smith with a single up the middle, and the Heat never looked back. They really started heating up in the fourth, scoring runs from Brian Pointer, Tim Smith, Jordan McDonald, and Joey Wong.

Luke Hughes, newly appointed hitting instructor, crushed a homer down the left field line in the 5th and plated Joey Wong, bringing the score to 9-2. Last year's MVP, Joey Wong, looked strong at short stop turning a number of double plays with Hughes at second. Tim Kennelly, while playing for the Braves Baseball Club, also launched one out of the park, providing the Braves with their only runs of the games.

The Alcohol. Think Again will play tonight, the 17th October, against the USA All-Stars. The Heat will open the 2014-2015 Australian Baseball League season and the defense of the Claxton Shield on 31 October against the Sydney Blue Sox at Barbagallo Ballpark at 7:20pm.
