ADELAIDE, 15 November - The Adelaide Bite proudly presented by SA Power Networks will add one of the most successful profiles in Australian baseball to their portfolio with today's announcement that Brooke Knight will take over as manager for the South Australian club. Knight, who piloted the Perth Heat to Claxton Shield premierships in 2010/11 and 2011/12, will manage his first series with the Bite in Round 5, following Adelaide's bye.

The winningest manager in Australian Baseball League history since the league's inaugural season in 2010/11, Knight skippered the Heat to a 58-27 mark during his two seasons at the helm in Western Australia. Following the 2010/11 campaign, his Heat defeated Adelaide in the ABL Championship Series to claim their first crown of the reborn league.

"I am thrilled to take the next step in my career with such a talented roster and first-rate organisation as the Bite," Knight said. "With the core group of men we have bolstering our lineup and pitching staff, I am confident we will have things heading in the right direction in no time in our pursuit of the Claxton Shield."

Adelaide sit at 2-6 through the first two rounds of this ABL season but have suffered two one-run defeats. In Round 2, they got an impressive performance from right-handed pitcher Kyle Brueggemann whose complete-game shutout of the Heat on November 9th earned him ABL Pitcher of the Week honours. Returning ABL Rookie of the Year Ben Lodge has been a force for the Bite, as well, batting .370 through his first eight games, a mark that ranks eighth-best in the league.

Knight has an impressive baseball background in Australia and the United States, including time playing professionally in the Milwaukee Brewers organisation. In addition to his ABL hardware, Knight has coached the Corvallis (US) Knights of the collegiate-level West Coast League to three championships, as well, and is a four-time West Coast League coach of the year honouree.

Knight is currently travelling with the ABL's contingent at the 2013 Asia Series in Taichung, Taiwan. His new club opens a Round 3 series at Melbourne tonight. Adelaide general manager Nathan Davison will manage the Bite for their three-game weekend set before Knight returns to take control in SA.
