A four-time Claxton Shield champion, three as a manager, Dale has coached the Aces to the championship series in 2011-12 after a playoff appearance during the ABL's first year of existence in 2010-11.

Dale had previously coached the Victoria Aces in 2008-09 and 2009-10, winning the Claxton Shield in 2010. It was Australia's leading 22nd Claxton Shield for the State of Victoria.

In nine seasons with the Waverley Reds, Victoria Aces and Melbourne Aces, Dale is a combined 195-153 (.560) as a manager.

During his first, ten year ABL career from 1989-99, Dale pitched and for many years, managed. He coached the Waverley Reds for the first five seasons (1989-94), earning manager of the year honors in 1993 following his second Claxton Shield. In his first season as a coach and pitcher, the Reds went 34-6 in the inaugural season of the ABL, to win the title.

Dale has been a part of the Australian national coaching staff since the 2000 Olympics. The crowning achievement still remains when the Australians won silver at the 2004 Olympics, when Dale was the pitching coach. He has also been a part of the 2001, 2005 and 2007 Baseball World Cup, as well as the 2006 and 2009 World Baseball Classic. He also coached at Olympics in 2000 and 2004, before the sport was cut after the 2008 Games.

Prior to his coaching career, Dale was the first Australian to earn a four-year baseball scholarship at an American university, playing at Georgia Southern. He played four seasons in the minor leagues, reaching Double-A.

Dale went 63-39 with 18 saves and a 3.19 ERA over 102 games and 10 years in the ABL, ranking fifth all-time in ERA, while also leading the ABL in wins, losses and innings.

He won seven games in 1990-91 and also in 1991-92, ranking second in the league in ERA (2.12) in 1991-92. He converted seven saves and had a 2.47 ERA in an all-star season in 1992-93, earning manager of the year honors as well.

Following five more saves in 1993-94, he gave up the managing duties in 1994-95 and went 12-2 and was named the ABL's pitcher of the year. He led the Reds to the title that year, while also earning championship series MVP honors. After moving over to the Melbourne Monarchs, he won nine games in 1996-97 and added eight wins in 1997-98. He would finish his pro career in 1998-99 for the Monarchs, his third with the team.
