The 28-year-old American offered a steady arm, regularly hitting the strike zone as one of Adelaide's four key starting pitchers.

While he did concede 67 hits in 55 2/3 innings, his strike rate meant all hitters had to work hard. He allowed just eight walks.

In tandem with Markus Solbach they offered one of the league's best import starting pairings and his ability to pitch out of tight situations was impressive.

The highlight

November 30 saw Adelaide beat Perth 3-2 on the back of six powerful Heyer innings. He had four strikeouts as he gave up just the two runs with no walks in a victory which propelled the Bite into divisional leader conversations.

What's next?

Heyer will be a foundation pitcher for the Milwaukee Milkmen in the American Association, with the Milkmen replacing the Wichita Wingnuts in the league.
