Coming off a stellar rookie season which saw Mead slash .373 in 20 games it was always going to be difficult knowing how he would fare as starting player at just 18.

It was a season of learning for the second baseman and the Phillies prospect can hold his head high thanks to some high quality defensive plays.

Mead will learn from his mistakes and a late three-week run of form saw him lift his average from .161 to .257 in a stirring return to his ever improving best.

Games: 38
Average: .240
Hits: 30
Runs: 15
RBI: 16
Home runs: 2

The highlight

In Mt Gambier fans witnessed a Mead masterclass against Auckland. The teen sensation mashed two home runs in a doubleheader, including a grand slam, a performance which saw him go 6-for-9 with three runs and 10 RBI.

What's next?

While Mead has already spent a few weeks with Philadelphia in Florida in 2018, and has made his Gulf Coast League debut, this year will see him officially join their rookie team.
