The 20-year-old first baseman fought through a difficult season with defensive improvement the highlight as one of several starting Aussie rising stars.

Following a 2017/18 season with 14 double plays and seven errors in 217 innings at first, McArdle saw a small spike in double plays with 19 from 174 innings and more importantly no errors.

Undeniably he is coming off a career shaping year which saw him represent Australia at the U23 World Cup and reach 100 ABL games. Sadly his mother passed away from cancer in July.

2018/19 ABL Season

The highlight

On the final day of Adelaide's season McArdle smacked a two-run double in a 3-2 win over Sydney. His hit came with two outs in the first inning and the Bite held on thanks to the early lead.

What's next?

McArdle returns to Arizona for his third rookie season with the Diamondbacks. His 2018 campaign came to a premature end but the signs were promising with a .278 average from 16 games.
