Vintage Gailey leads Cavs to series win
Six stellar innings sees Canberra home in makeup game

Canberra have clinched a crucial Brut Australian Baseball series win over the Sydney Blue Sox after a 2-0 win in the first game of the double header on Sunday afternoon at MIT Ballpark.

With Saturday night's game called off due to rain, the Cavalry kept their momentum from Friday going in the shortened seven inning matchup.

It was Canberra starting pitcher Frank Gailey's performance that lead the team to victory. He finished the game with seven strikeouts and surrendered just three hits in six scoreless innings.

Relief pitcher Tomoya Mikami completed the shutout for the Cavalry in the final frame.

Canberra had a chance to open scoring in the bottom of the second and third, but some solid pitching and fielding by the Blue Sox left Canberra players stranded in scoring positions.

It took until the fourth innings for the Cavalry to put runs on the board. Singles by Boss Moanaroa and Michael Crouse scored David Kandilas (walk) and Zach Wilson (walk), putting the Cavalry up 2-0.

Sydney had a chance to hit straight back with the bases loaded, but Gailey held his nerve to strikeout designated hitter Trent D'Antonio in the top of the fifth.

Michael Crouse and Michael Fransoso finished with two hits apiece for Canberra.

First pitch of Game 4 is scheduled for 4pm today, with the Cavalry looking to sweep the series.
