Brisbane withstood a late Auckland rally to take a 3-1 lead in their Brut Australian Baseball League series at OneHub Stadium powered by Optus on Saturday afternoon.

Riley Unroe's three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth gave the Bandits a four-run buffer and they needed every inch of it, holding on to win 8-7.

Danny De La Calle's broken bat single drove in Donald Lutz (walk) ahead of Unroe breaking the contest open.

But Luke Hansen led off the seventh with a homer ahead of back-to-back walks ending Cameron McVey's afternoon.

Matt Timms gave up a run-scoring double to Nick Tanielu and a double play scored Auckland's third run of the inning.

Timms ensured Brisbane held on to record a vital win in the tighly contest North-East Division.

Earlier, Zach Clark's impressive series continued with his RBI opening the scoring for the Tuatara in the fourth.

Daniel Lamb-Hunt extended their lead before Hansen drove in a third run.

Brisbane's TJ Bennett opened the home side's scoring for the day, blasting his eighth homer of the season, as the Bandits added three runs in the bottom of the fourth.

The hosts will chase a 4-1 series win in game two of today's doubleheader from 6pm.
