Melbourne has pulled level with Perth atop the South-West Division after edging the Heat 1-0 in their Brut Australian Baseball League series opener at Melbourne Ballpark on Friday night.

Daryl George's sixth-inning RBI ended up being the difference between the two teams in a thrilling start to their blockbust series at Melbourne Ballpark.

In a low-scoring contest, simple errors ended up costing Perth.

Heat starter John Anderson's wild pitch created a chance for Jarryd Dale (walk) to reach second and ultimately score the winning run.

The two teams showed exactly why they are the best teams in the South-West Division, going toe-to-toe across nine fascinating innings.

Melbourne starter Scott Shuman struck out six in 4 1/3 innings before Jon Kennedy tossed 1 2/3 innings.

Any hope of a Perth comeback was shutdown by returning Josh Tols .

The Heat will look to square the series in game two from 5:00pm tomorrow at Melbourne Ballpark.
