Auckland grind out extra innings win
Collmenter, Hansen play key roles in one-run victory
01/04/2019 3:46 AM ET

Auckland have flipped this week's series on its head, defeating Brisbane 3-2 in a ten inning game at OneHub Stadium powered by Optus tonight.

Auckland's Luke Hansen drove in the eventual game-winning runs in the first tie-breaker inning, doubling on a ground ball to left field, allowing Te Wera Bishop and Guiyuan Xu to score, putting the Tuatara ahead.

Hansen then made a spectacular diving catch at third to deny any Bandits momentum, as the Tuatara picked up their first win of the series.

Brandon Marklund threw two pressure-cooker innings late for Auckland, and was helped by some stellar defence from Hansen and Zach Clark.

After four quick innings, in which neither team scored a run, Clark singled on a line drive, allowing Kris Richards to score first run of the night.

Logan Wade finally brought scored a run for the home side, as Wade Dutton's RBI single tied things up in the sixth.

Auckland's starter Josh Collmenter contributed heavily to the visitor's success tonight, striking out seven Bandits players over the course of seven stellar innings.

His opposite number - Brisbane's Travis Blackley - was equally special. The former MLBers duked it out for seven memorable innings, with Blackley only allowing one earned run and fanning four.

David Sutherland struck out at the bottom of the ninth inning, while Unroe's potential game-winner flew out to Auckland's right fielder Max Brown, forcing the game into a tenth inning.

The series continues tomorrow afternoon with a double header scheduled to take place from 2pm local time.
