A nine run inning has propelled the Perth Heat to their eighth win of the season, defeating the Bite 17-5 in Brut Australian Baseball League action.

The Bite (5-6) bounced out to a one-run lead after the first, but from there it was all Perth (8-3), as the visitors piled on the pain.

Tampa Bay Rays utility Chris Clare was the outstanding bat in the Heat lineup, going 4-for-6 with four RBI, while the evergreen Tim Kennelly lifted his average to .400 on the season with two hits, two walks and two RBI.

The Heat put the game out of reach in the fifth as they took advantage of four walks and two hit-by-pitches from a wayward Bite pitching staff. Chris Clare drove in three of his four RBI with two singles in the fifth.

Both starting pitchers had challenges, with Perth's Robert Garcia walking three in 3.2 innings, while Greg Mosel only managed 1.2 innings after picking up an injury.

In his 100th regular season outing, Heat veteran Scott Mitchinson was the pick of the arms, tossing two scoreless to end the ballgame.

The Bite weren't short of highlights however, with Mikey Reynolds stealing home, and catcher Mitch Edwards nailing his second home run of the season.

Jake Bowey put the icing on the cake for the Heat in the ninth, driving in his third home run of the season off Roger Huadancarairang.

The series finale kicks off at 12pm local time at West Beach Parks as the Heat look to fight back and earn a split.
