A strong Sydney side could not match last night's success, as the Brisbane Bandits defeated their east coast rivals 4-1 in Brut Australian Baseball League action today.

Early homers from TJ Bennett and Daniel Nilsson propelled Brisbane into the lead, despite a strong effort from the away team in the early innings.

Bandits veteran and Team Australia star Travis Blackley was outstanding in the seven-inning ballgame striking out five and scattering four hits on a warm afternoon in Brisbane.

A homer from Sydney's Gift Ngoepe pushed the score to 4-1 in the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough to keep as the Bandits held the lead in game one of the doubleheader.

Earlier, Andrew Campbell belted another homer - his third of the season - as Brisbane kept the pressure on the Blue Sox.

Sydney tried to fight back in the fourth inning with the bases loaded, however couldn't convert on the opportunity, as Blackley kept his composure on the mound.

A pitching change in the final inning saw Loek Van Mil collect his second save of the season, squaring the series at one game apiece.

The series continues tonight, with game three's first pitch scheduled for 6pm local.
