Saturday December 29th will be a momentous occasion for Canberra Baseball as the future of the Australian Baseball League combines with the past. On that day, the club will hold a "Throwback Night" to pay tribute to Canberra's professional baseball pioneers, The Canberra Bushrangers, celebrating the 25th anniversary of their debut in Canberra.

The Bushrangers represented Canberra in the Australian Baseball League from 1993 to 1995. Cavalry will don black and teal caps and the famous pinstripes when they play as The Bushrangers in the third game of a series against the newest ABL team, The Auckland Tuatara at MIT Ballpark in Narrabundah.

Cavalry manager Keith Ward, who played for the Bushrangers, is excited by the concept.

"One of the highlights of my playing career was turning out for the Bushrangers as a Canberran playing for Canberra. Seeing the Cavs playing in the Bushrangers colours will be special. I'm pretty sure I'll get a buzz when I pull on the pinstripes that night," Ward said.

To make the game even more special, the Cavalry has invited all Bushrangers past players to attend the game, and will help them reminisce in the afternoon of the match with a visit to GIO Stadium in the afternoon. While GIO Stadium is more recognisable today as the home of football teams, it was also the Bushrangers' home base for their two seasons in Canberra.

The Bushrangers game uniforms will be worn by the Cavalry during the Reunion game on Saturday 29 December and during a special "Throwback Thursday" on Thursday 17 January.

This special event has been made possible by long-time club sponsor and champion of Canberra sport, Richard Rolfe and Rolfe Motors, who also sponsored the Bushrangers.

"I love my sport, and I had a lot of good times at the Bushrangers games," said Rolfe.

"When I heard the Cavalry wanted to mark the 25th anniversary of the Bushrangers' arrival in Canberra, I couldn't wait to help out. I've seen the uniform designs and they look sharp. It'll be a real trip down memory lane."

Every player's game-worn jersey will be auctioned after the game on 17 January. There will also be a limited number of supporter replica caps and jerseys available for sale.

Fans attending the game will be encouraged to bring (or wear) any of their old Bushrangers supporters gear, and the game that night will feature the music of 1993-95 between innings and as walk-up songs for the batters.

Tickets for the Bushrangers Reunion game on Saturday 29 December are available now!
