Leadoff man and Infielder Darryl George will return for another year with the Melbourne Aces, with the one goal of bringing the Claxton Shield back to Altona for the first time since the ABL's inception.

After missing a large chunk of the 2016/17 season, George had a breakout year in 2017/18 leading the team in hits, doubles, RBI's, and Stolen Bases, as well as having the highest average out of regular players. He ended the season with a 5 game hit streak and a 6 game on base streak.

George spent all but 3 innings of the year at shortstop, finding a home on the left side of the middle infield after being thrown around the whole park in recent years. His .951 fielding percentage with 25 double plays and only 8 errors saw him emerge as one of the elite shortstops in the ABL.

Rumours had swirled all offseason about the potential of George leaving Altona, with the infielder being courted heavily by other contenders all offseason.
