Major League talent joins Blue Sox
08/29/2018 1:56 AM ET

Are you ready for your gift Sox Nation?

The Blue Sox are extremely excited to announce the signing of former Pittsburgh Pirates and Toronto Blue Jays infielder Gift Ngoepe!

Ngoepe made history in 2017 becoming the first ever African-born player to make the major leagues. He had his first big league hit against Cubs lefty Jon Lester in his major league debut. Gift has split 2018 between the Blue Jays and AAA Buffalo Bisons and looks to continue his 2018 campaign with a big season for the Blue Sox both with the bat and the glove. Gift excelled with the glove in the MLB having never made an error with either the Pirates or Blue Jays. We are very excited to have Gift join the club and share his talent and big league knowledge with everyone.
Blue Sox Manager Tony Harris added, "We are super excited to have Gift join us for this season. I have known him for many years and not only is he an amazing defender at shortstop, but I also expect him to be exciting at the plate. He is a quality person that really fits our culture and will quickly become a fan favourite. Having spent time at the major league level these past few years our fans will witness baseball at it's highest with Gift this season!"
