Former Adelaide Bite manager Steve Mintz will take the helm of Auckland Tuatara in its inaugural Australian Baseball League season.

The Tuatara announced Mintz as manager today, along with its name, logo and team colours.

Mintz - a former MLB pitcher and current coach in the Texas Rangers' organisation - said he was thrilled to be part of Auckland's first season in the ABL.

"To come to New Zealand and try to build professional baseball with the people that are already there is exciting," Mintz said in a statement released by the Tuatara today.

"I can't wait to get started … (it's) another exciting experience for me to do and to continue growing as a baseball person."

Mintz is currently serving as pitching coach with Class A Advanced Down East Wood Ducks.

Baseball New Zealand chief executive Ryan Flynn said Mintz was a perfect fit for the new team.

"Steve has a wealth of personal experience to call upon as a professional baseball player and manager," Flynn said.

"(He) has worked previously in the ABL so knows what it takes to be successful in this league."

Mintz took the Bite to an ABLCS in 2015/2016 and back to the playoffs a season later.

Adelaide compiled a 53-43 regular-season record across Mintz's two seasons at the helm.

Former big-league pitcher DJ Carrasco and Cincinnati Reds' minor league bench coach Darren Bragg will also join Auckland's coaching staff for season 2018/2019.
