Welch set to return in Bite boost
Infielder making comeback after taking 2017/2018 season off

Adelaide Bite games record holder Stefan Welch will make his return to the ABL in season 2018/2019 following a year away from the league.

Welch, a Team Australia representative and regular at third base for the Bite in the opening seven seasons of the ABL, is set to add to his 244 regular-season appearances.

He joins young guns Curtis Mead, Aaron Whitefield and Mitch Edwards on Adelaide's list of signings so far this off-season.

"It's pretty exciting," Welch told adelaidebite.com.au.

"From the last few years all the young talent that's coming up, the Bite's only going to get better.

"There's a positive energy going around … I think we'll have one of the strongest teams we've had in the last few years."

Welch holds the Bite's record for hits (231), runs batted in (155) and home runs (33).

He took last season off to focus on family after the birth of his son, Ledger.

"Family comes first and I wanted to be there and spend time with my son," he said.

"You don't really get that time for long.

"(It) was good to get time with my family and be back for this season."

Welch was part of Goodwood's SABL premiership success last summer.

Adelaide general manager Nathan Davison said Welch would make an instant impact on the Bite.

"He brings leadership, experience and a presence to the team," Davison said.

"When he's in the line-up you know about it."
