The 2018/19 ABL Season Schedule is now finalised and the Cavalry Community is circling the weekend of 6 - 9 December on their calendars for the Cavs Home Opening Series against defending ABL Champions, the Brisbane Bandits.

The Cavs are hungry for revenge after the Bandits spoiled their plans to bring the Claxton Shield back to Canberra in the ABLCS last year. The last time these two teams met was during a tense deciding game in the ABLCS where tempers flared, the benches cleared, and the great Cavs season ended on a sour note.

The Cavalry's home opening series will be played over 4 days during the weekend, including:

  • Game 1: Thursday 6 December @ 7pm
  • Game 2: Friday 7 December @ 7pm
  • Game 3: Saturday 8 December @ 7pm
  • Game 4: Sunday 9 December @ 1pm

The Cavs Home Opening Series will also mark the Grand Re-Opening of The Fort at MIT Ballpark after the massive stadium redevelopment that is currently underway in Narrabundah.

The Cavalry start their season at home in Round 4, playing the first 3 Rounds on the road, traveling to Melbourne, Sydney, and to Auckland in Rounds 1-3, respectively.

The Cavs Home Opening Series was scheduled in Round 4 in order to maximise the time available to complete the redevelopment of the Fort at MIT Ballpark. It also accommodates New Zealand's need to play their home series during Rounds 2-4.

Cavalry Director of Business Operations Dan Amodio says: "The redevelopment process is going very smoothly. Construction on the refurbished members stand is underway, which was a major milestone in the project, and we're expecting to finish with plenty of time to get ready for our home opener. Having a few extra weeks up our sleeves will give us some room to react to unexpected delays and also make sure all of the paint is dry for Opening Day."

There will be plenty to celebrate during the Cavs Home Opening Series, including a reunion for all of the donors from the Let's Do It Canberra! Campaign, which helped Canberra win the bid to enter a team into the re-formed ABL in 2010.

Amodio adds: "This year, we have a new ballpark and a new ownership group so we felt it was the perfect time to pay homage to our roots. The Cavalry exists today because of what nearly 1,000 people pledged nearly 10 years ago. So on December 6, Re-Opening Day, we'll celebrate them with the Let's Do It Canberra! Reunion. So save the date, Cavs fans!"
