South Korean legend Dae-Sung Koo has been named the inaugural manager of Geelong-Korea's Australian Baseball League team.

Koo brings a wealth of experience to the role having played in the KBO (Korean Baseball Organisation), NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball), MLB (Major League Baseball) and ABL across a decorated 23-year playing career.

He became the 10th South Korean to feature in MLB when he debuted with the New York Mets in 2005, helped his nation to bronze at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and was also named MVP during his KBO career.

Koo was excited to work with his countrymen during their inaugural season in the ABL.

"I want to tell the players the know-how I gained from playing in Korea, Japan, the US and Australia," he said.

"Australia is the perfect place for players to experience.

"The level is relatively high, so if we go through a season our players will greatly improve their skills."

Koo - a two-time ABL Reliever of the Year with Sydney - worked with the Blue Sox as pitching coach in 2016/2017.

Winterball Korea, the holders of the Geelong-Korea licence, also announced Choong-Sik Park would be general manager of the new team.
