Sydney slugger derby bound
Rhys Hoskins seals place in MLB HR Derby
07/12/2018 12:29 AM ET

Following a meteoric rise in Major League Baseball, former Sydney Blue Sox slugger Rhys Hoskins has made history, becoming the first ever ABL alumni to be selected in an MLB Home Run Derby.

Hoskins joins bonafide stars of the game including Bryce Harper, Javier Baez and Freddie Freeman in the 2018 MLB Home Run Derby, which will be held at Nationals Park in Washington D.C.

In his lone season for the Sydney Blue Sox (2015/16), Hoskins lead the team in homers (8), RBI (43) total bases (98) and slugging % (.508).

As Hoskins' development continued, the slugger made his debut for the Philadelphia Phillies on August 10 2017 as he set the MLB alight.

Hoskins set an MLB record, nailing 18 home runs in his first 34 games.

A .255 hitter in 82 games for the Phillies this season, Hoskins has picked up 14 home runs and driven in a team-high 56 runs.

Hoskins faces a tough task in the first round of the Home Run Derby, facing Milwaukee slugger Jesus Aguilar.

The MLB Home Run Derby kicks off on Monday 16 July at 8pm local in Washington D.C.
