Cavs sign former New York Yankee draftee slugger
Former Yankee draftee and current York Revolution star will reinforce the Cavs' lineup in 2018/19

The Canberra Cavalry are pleased to announce the signing of former New York Yankees power-hitting draftee, Zach Wilson. Zach will join the team for the upcoming season from the York Revolution of the Atlantic League, where he has racked up massive offensive stats over the past few seasons.

The 27-year-old combined to bat .284 with 42 home runs, 75 doubles, and 177 RBI in three seasons in Southern Maryland from 2015-2017 and has already added 4 home runs, 12 doubles and 22 RBI in just 45 games with York this season. Last year, Zach won the Atlantic League Home Run Derby and won MVP of the All-Star Game, where he was competing against the league's top talent.

The arrival of Wilson, who plays both first base and third base, will bolster the Cavalry line up in 2018/19. Director of Baseball Operations Donn McMichael welcomes the signing with the belief that Wilson could be the missing piece to the ABL Championship puzzle for the upcoming season.

"Zach comes highly recommended as a player who, as a former Yankee, is going to bring a big bat to the Cavalry line up." McMichael said. "He also seems like an excellent young man that will fit in perfectly with the culture we've developed here. He'll play a big part in our run to the Championship."

Wilson was drafted by the New York Yankees in 2011 and spent 4 seasons with the Yankees organisation, reaching the Double-A level. He also joins a long list of successful players who have made the trip to the Cavalry form the Atlantic League, who include ABL Strikeout King Brian Grening, last season's standout pitcher Frank Gailey, one of the best closers the ABL has seen Michael Click, and power-hitting speed machine Travis Witherspoon.

Wilson says he was tipped off by some former Cavs players that Canberra is the place to play in the ABL. "I've heard some great things about playing in Australia from a lot of my buddies." Wilson said. "My current teammate, Travis Witherspoon, always talks about how much fun he had with the Cavs last season and my old team-mate, Brian Grening has been telling me the same thing for the past couple years."

Wilson is the first international import player signed to play with the Cavalry in the 2018/19 season, which will begin in November with two new international expansion teams entering the league from New Zealand and South Korea. Wilson, a "Yank" himself from Long Beach, California signed his Cavalry contract appropriately just after the July 4th Holiday.
