Former Perth Heat reliever Peter Moylan has signed a non-guaranteed Major League deal with the Atlanta Braves for 2018.

Moylan, who has played for the Kansas City Royals for the past two seasons led the American League with 79 appearances last season - pitching to a 3.49 ERA in 59.1 innings.

The Lesmurdie-born South Perth Cubs product will provide much-needed experience for a Braves pitching staff who recorded a 4.72 ERA in 2017.

If the 460-game veteran makes the Opening-Day roster, it will be his third stint in Atlanta, where he previously played between 2006-2012 and again in 2015.

The right-hander is slated to earn $1.2 million in 2018 should he make the Braves' roster - an impressive feat when you consider how far the Australian has come during his 11-year MLB career.

Having signed with the Minnesota Twins in 1996, Moylan was released in 1998 and returned down under to work as a pharmaceutical rep and play in the ABL.

It wasn't until a standout 2006 World Baseball Classic Tournament that Moylan attracted the attention of the baseball world, and was offered a contract by the Braves, and subsequently made his MLB debut later that year.

The 39-year-old is one of three West Australians in the MLB alongside Warwick Saupold (Detroit Tigers) and Liam Hendriks (Oakland Athletics) and owns a career 3.00 ERA to go along with an impressive 24-9 win/loss record.
