Perth will host Canberra in an ABL semi-final series next weekend after defeating Melbourne 7-5 in game one of their doubleheader on Saturday.

The Heat overturned an early deficit to record their 26th win of the season as Ulrich Bojarski and Jake Fraley went deep at Perth Harley-Davidson Ballpark.

Perth's win put them out of third-placed Canberra's reach, securing hosting rights for a best-of-three series with the Cavs in the opening round of the playoffs.

The Heat trailed 1-0 on Darryl George's second lead-off home run in as many days.

Perth drew level on Bojarski's fifth homer of the season before blowing the contest wide open with a five-run third.

Tim Kennelly's sacrifice fly scored Fraley (double, stolen base) to hand the Heat the lead before Robbie Glendinning's RBI-double made it 3-1.

Aces' starter Jon Kennedy hit Michael Hart with a pitch and the bases loaded ahead of Alex Hall and Jesse Williams driving in runs to extend the lead to five runs.

Fraley added a solo homer - number 13 on the season - in the sixth.

George finished with a three-homer game for Melbourne.

Perth starter Nick Veale allowed two earned runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings, striking out three.

The series will continue with game two of the doubleheader shortly.

It will be the last hit-out for both teams before the playoffs start next week.
