David Kandilas hit a walk-off homer as Canberra maintained its hopes of hosting an ABL semi-final series with a vital win over Brisbane on Saturday.

The Cavs blew a four-run lead late on but recovered to keep alive their top-two chances with a 6-5 win at Narrabundah.

Kandilas took Bandits' reliever Zac Treece deep with one out in the ninth of an originally scheduled seven-inning contest to seal the victory.

The homer was Kandilas' 12th of the season.

Catcher Jake Turcato's solo home run with none out in the seventh pulled Brisbane within a run ahead of Lin Chih-sheng driving in the tying run.

The hosts failed to score in the bottom of the seventh, forcing extra innings.

Earlier, Canberra raced to a 4-0 lead against Bandits' starter Ryan Bollinger in the first inning.

The Cavs doubled their lead on a Boss Moanaroa groundball and a two-run single from Cameron Warner made it 4-0 after one.

Starter Lake Bachar worked 5 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three.

The right-hander gave up a solo homer to David Sutherland in the fifth before Brisbane added two runs in the sixth to end his outing.

Bollinger steadied to work five innings for the Bandits, striking out eight and allowing four earned runs on eight hits with a couple of walks.

Canberra's win kept alive its hopes of edging Perth for second spot and semi-final hosting rights in week one of the playoffs.

The Cavs must down the Bandits in game two of tonight's doubleheader and hope the Heat drop two games to Melbourne in Perth.

If that happens, Canberra would face Brisbane tomorrow in a make-up of their postponed round one clash needing a victory to seal second.

Game two of the doubleheader will start shortly.
