Adelaide Giants made a positive return to the ABL with an 8-6 victory over Perth Heat on Saturday night at Diamond Sports, Adelaide Shores.

A legends game supplied the early entertainment for "Giants" supporters before Adelaide Bite players honoured the memory of the former South Australian ABL team from the 1990s.

After Perth scored a run in the first inning the Giants exploded in the third frame with five runs, on the back of doubles to Stephen Lohr, Tai-Shan Chang and Nathan Vanderlinden's big two-run shot.

Then two further runs in the fourth and another in the fifth saw Adelaide out to a convincing 8-1 lead.

Perth fought back with three runs in the sixth dig and two in the seventh to make the game close, with big Giants pitcher Luke Van Mil closing the door on the Heat scoring the rest of the way.

Game four concludes the series at midday Sunday, with Adelaide reverting to its Bite uniforms.
