Adelaide failed to plate a run in 14 innings against Brisbane starters in the opening two games of its series with the Bandits.

That all changed against former big leaguer Travis Blackley as the Bite recorded a 6-1 win - just their fourth of the season - at Adelaide Shores on Saturday night.

Rodrigo Ayarza walked and advanced on a balk in the first before scoring on a single to centre field by Stephen Lohr to make it 1-0.

A pitchers' duel broke out from there until Adelaide added to its lead in the fifth.

Catcher Isaias Quiroz and Darius Day singled before Ayarza crushed his third home run of the season to give the Bite a 4-0 advantage.

Adelaide starter Greg Mosel produced his most complete performance of the season to keep the Brisbane bats quiet.

Mosel worked seven scoreless innings, striking out eight, walking one and giving up just four hits.

It was not until Loek van Mil replaced Mosel the Bandits hit the scoreboard.

Wade Dutton homered off the 216cm reliever to lead off the eighth.

The Bite added to their lead in the bottom half of the inning.

Stephen Lohr and Chang Tai-shan hit back-to-back doubles and Wilson Lee singled as Adelaide went 6-1 up.

Van Mil struck out Brisbane in the bottom of the ninth as the Bite secured a fourth win of the season.

Adelaide will chase a series split in game four on Sunday.
