Veterans Tim Kennelly and Luke Hughes homered as Perth completed a sweep of its rain-shortened three-game series with a 7-4 win over Sydney on Sunday.

Kennelly hit a three-run shot to put the Heat ahead in the fifth after Hughes homered for the fourth time this season an inning earlier at Blacktown International Sports Park.

The two long balls helped Perth overcome an early 3-0 deficit and improve to 7-4 on the season and 6-1 on the road.

Heat starter Nick Veale struggled through the first inning as the Blue Sox piled on three runs before an out was recorded.

Jacob Younis (walk), Gavin Fingleson (single), Michael Suchy (walk), Chiang Chih-hsien (double) and Jin-De Jhang (walk) all reached as Sydney opened up a 3-0 advantage.

Alex Hall drove in a run for Perth in the second and Hughes hit a home run in the fourth to cut the lead to one.

Gavin Fingleson's fourth-inning sacrifice fly put the Blue Sox lead back to two runs.

From there Kennelly put the Heat ahead for good with a three-run blast, his third of the season.

Sydney was its own worst enemy.

The Sox left 10 runners on base and went 1-for-12 with men in scoring position.

Perth returns home to face last-placed Adelaide and Sydney travels to Brisbane.
