A David Kandilas grand slam and strong start by Lake Bachar has propelled Canberra to a 4-0 win over Sydney on Friday night.

Bachar pitched six shutout innings and Kandilas broke a scoreless tie in the fifth as the Cavs improved to 2-3 for the season.

The starters were in control through four innings as Bachar and Blue Sox counterpart Craig Anderson controlled proceedings.

Canberra was able to rattle Anderson in the fifth as Robbie Perkins, Jake Amos and Buddy Reed all singled ahead of Kandilas hitting a grand slam to left field.

The outfielder's long ball - his third of the season - was all the Cavs needed as Bachar and the bullpen silenced Sydney's bats.

Bachar, a 22-year-old San Diego prospect, allowed seven hits and punched out three without issuing a walk in six scoreless innings.

Reliever Tyler Herr was able to maintain the lead Kandilas and Bachar had provided, completing a shutout of the Blue Sox with three tidy innings.

Kandilas finished the night 3-for-4 and Robbie Perkins and Jake Amos also had multi-hit games.

Sydney amassed nine hits but were unable to do any damage with them.

Meanwhile, Anderson finished with five strikeouts and the four runs to his name in six innings.

Canberra can wrap up its first series win of the season when the teams meet again tomorrow night.

The game starts at 7pm AEDT.
