Pitcher Steven Kent will return for his seventh Australian Baseball League season with the Canberra Cavalry in 2017/18.

Kent, 28, has made 76 regular season appearances for Canberra and was a member of the Cavs' 2013 Claxton Shield success against Perth.

The left-hander recorded an ERA of 2.08 in 14 relief outings last season, striking out 18 and restricting opposition hitters to an average of .194.

Kent's move to the bullpen came after a strong 2015/16 season in the starting rotation where he went 6-4 with a 3.04 ERA and was third in the league with 79 strikeouts.

The former Atlanta Braves' prospect was part of Australia's 2017 World Baseball Classic campaign, pitching one scoreless inning in a 4-3 loss to Cuba.

He threw six innings, allowing one run on four hits, and picked up the win in Australia's World Baseball Classic qualifier win over the Phillipines in 2016.

Canberra opens its season on the road against two-time defending champions Brisbane on November 16.
