Big League lefty added to Aces pen

The Aces bullpen has been bolstered by another Big-League arm with the signing of Atlanta Braves reliever Matt Marksberry.

After being drafted out of Campbell University to the Braves during the 15th round of the 2013 MLB draft, the southpaw quickly became a favourite amongst fans, drawing comparisons with Charlie Sheen's Rick Vaughn from the movie Major League.

Marksberry would skip the AA level, starting the season 2015 season with the Single A Carolina Muscats before getting promoted to the Triple A Gwinnett Braves where he would appear in just 11 games before being called up to make his Major League debut on July 20, 2015 for the Braves.

27-year-old Marksberry appeared in 35 games during four separate stints for the Braves across the 2015 and 2016 Major League seasons, posting a career 5.06 ERA in 26.2 innings. The Cincinnati native was most effective against left handers during his time in the Bigs with hitters only managing to go a combined 9 for 53 with 14 strikeouts.

At the conclusion of the 2016 season, Marksberry was placed in a medically induced coma after suffering seizures and a collapsed lung during a non-baseball related medical procedure.

He was released from the Braves during March of 2017 before signing with the Somerset Patriots in the Atlantic League earlier this year and now heads to Melbourne looking to continue his journey back to the Majors.
