Cohen, M. Nilsson earn Delta honours
Cavalry righthander, Bandits batter made mark in Round 9

SYDNEY, NSW -- With one round left in the 2016/17 Australian Baseball League regular season and the postseason picture still undecided, teams are boosted by outstanding performances by their key studs. For their deftness on the diamond last weekend, Canberra's Louis Cohen and Brisbane's Mitch Nilsson are the Round 9 Delta Air Lines Players of the Week.

Cohen's honour is his second of the 2016/17 ABL season, after winning the pitching weekly award back in Round 6. The 25-year-old righthander had another dominant start for the third-place Cavalry, fanning a career-high 10 batters in seven innings and allowing one unearned run on four hits while walking none. Cohen is 3-0 with a 2.88 ERA in six games (five starts) on the season, and has developed into one of Canberra's most reliable starting pitchers this year.

Nilsson was a force to be reckoned with at the plate last weekend, as the reigning champions swept Perth and kept their hopes of making a second-straight postseason alive. The 25-year-old Brisbane native hit .313 (5-for-16) with a league-leading three home runs and six RBIs. Nilsson's best game came Saturday night, when he went 2-for-5, slugged two home runs and drove in four runs to lead the Bandits to an 8-7 win. He's hitting .336 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs in 30 games so far this season, and is tied for the league lead in the former category.
