Trevor Foss (2-3) will start Friday night's series opener for the CompassMarkets.com Sydney Blue Sox (12-19), as they take on the Canberra Elite Cavalry (17-15) for the Hume Highway Cup, but more importantly for a push at a playoff spot.
Currently sitting fifth in the Australian Baseball League with a 3.26 ERA and a solid 1.34 WHIP, Foss knows the importance of the homestand against rivals, Canberra.
"This is a huge series for us", Foss stated.
"Of course every game matters, but this series could undoubtedly be the biggest of the year."
Foss leads the Sydney Blue Sox with 46 strikeouts, while only walked 14 across 47.0 innings of work. The 27 year-old righty recognises the significance of starting the series with a win.
"It's important for us to set the tone with a good outing tomorrow and get this final playoff push going in the right direction," he said.
Heading into his eighth start of the 2016/17 ABL season, Foss has found his groove, even if the results haven't always fallen his way.
"I've felt really good about my last 4 or 5 starts, despite things not always going our way," Foss reflected.
For Blue Sox Manager, Jason Pospishil, it has been reassuring having Foss take the mound all season for his Club.
"Trevor has been such a great acquisition for us this season", Pospishil said.
"He takes the ball in the first game of every series and gives us everything he has."
Pospishil identifies Foss' competitive attitude and desire to win as his key attributes.
"Trevor has a bulldog mentality on the mound. He never gives in and he competes every time out and that's all you can ask from your Number 1 guy," Pospishil stated.
"He gives us a chance to win every time."
The battle for the Hume Highway Cup commences on Friday night at Blue Sox Stadium, first pitch 7:30pm.
