Long-time CompassMarkets.com Sydney Blue Sox player Todd Van Steensel returns to Blue Sox Stadium this weekend.

The New Year's series will see the recognisable force join Sydney's pitching staff after he spent the winter playing for the Chattanooga Lookouts (AA) in the Minnesota Twins system. Van Steensel is feeling excited to get back out on the mound for his return this weekend.

"The fact I'm going to get to do it in front of home fans in Sydney during New Years makes it that much more exciting," stated Van Steensel.

During his time in the Chattanooga Lookouts 2016 season Todd Van Steensel had eight innings pitched with one win, six hits, two runs and seven strike outs with an average of .207. The call up to join AA came after Van Steensel's hard work and dedication, which will follow through for the Blue Sox in our second half of the season.

"The boys have battled hard the first half and although we aren't quite where we want to be, we're still giving our self a shot at the playoffs with a strong second half," the 25-year old righty said.

Last season Van Steensel closed six games for the Blue Sox, with an average of .214 he made five saves, had nine hits, eight runs and 17 strike outs. He hopes to add to the good work the current relievers have done.

"I'm feeling physically and mentally prepared to compete in the second half and hopefully bring that championship home to Sydney," Van Steensel said.
