Outfielder Alex Howe led the CompassMarkets.com Sydney Blue Sox (9-6) to an exhilarating win over the Brisbane Bandits (6-9), presented by WellDog, in Saturday's nightcap.

Howe's walk-off home run (2) in the bottom of the ninth propelled the Blue Sox to a come-from-behind victory, as the home side clinched both games of Saturday's twin bill, to take a 2-1 series lead.

Earlier, the Blue Sox were off to a flying start in the first, as Howe was in the action, crunching a bases-clearing double to right centre, leading Sydney to an early 4-0 lead.

The visiting Brisbane Bandits responded with a four-run inning of their own in the fourth as they looked to cut the deficit. The Bandits followed this with two-runs in the fifth as they moved to a 6-5 lead.

The Blue Sox response was swift, as Josh Dean singled home Trent D'Antonio in the sixth to tie it up.

A two-run single to Kevin Padlo in the top of the seventh again gave the Bandits the lead, an advantage they eventually relinquished as the Blue Sox answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the seventh. Alex Howe doubled to right field, which was followed by a two-run double from designated hitter Guy Edmonds, his first hit of the ABL campaign.

Blue Sox starter Craig Anderson pitched 4.2 innings, allowing nine hits on four strikeouts. Overall, the Sydney pitching staff proved disciplined, as they struck out seven and did not allow a walk.

With the game tied into the ninth, Josh Guyer (W, 1-0) allowed one hit as he earned his first win of the season.

Malik Collymore continued his hot streak, going 4-for-5 with a stolen base.

However, it was Howe's heroics that were the highlight as his walk-off blast left him with four RBI's.

"It was pretty exciting, a really good game," Howe stated.

Blue Sox legend, Chris Oxspring will take the mound in Sunday's matinee game. First pitch 1:00pm.
