The Sydney Blue Sox (7-6) dropped the series opener against the Brisbane Bandits (6-7), presented by WellDog, going down 2-0.

The Friday night clash proved a pitcher's duel as runs were hard to come by.

Starting pitcher Trevor Foss (L, 1-2) pitched strongly through 5.1 innings, allowing five hits and striking out six. His scoreless outing was broken up in the sixth as the Bandits crossed for the games first run.

In relief, Ryoto Yoshikoshi had a strong outing. The Japanese lefty pitched two scoreless innings, striking out four.

For the visitors, Justin Erasmus (W, 1-0) earned his first win of the 2016/17 Australian Baseball League season. Erasmus pitched six innings, allowing three hits and recording nine strikeouts. Brisbane closer Ryan Searle shut the gate, earning his league-leading fourth save.

On offense, Jacob Younis led the Blue Sox, compiling two hits across three at-bats. Tucker Neuhaus and Stone Garrett each contributed a double, but it wasn't enough as no runs came across home plate for the hosts.

Luke Wilkins (1-1) and Craig Anderson (3-0) take the mound for the Blue Sox in Saturday's double-header.

Club stalwart, Anderson will start the second game of the twin bill and is looking forward to rebounding on Saturday.

"It was a tough loss tonight," Anderson said.

"Hopefully we can bounce back tomorrow. Two big games against very quality opposition."
