Four Aces to Play for Team Australia in WBC Qualifier
Tournament will be held at Blacktown International Sportspark in Sydney
01/27/2016 11:05 PM ET

The World Baseball Classic announced the managers, rosters, and game schedule for the World Baseball Classic qualifier in Sydney, and four players from this year's Jet Couriers Melbourne Aces squad will be suiting up for Team Australia in the tournament.

The Aces are represented by infielders Brad Harman and James Beresford as well as pitchers Sam Gibbons and Peter Moylan. Harman was on Melbourne's opening day roster and Beresford, Gibbons, and Moylan joined the team later in the 2015/16 season.

"I am really proud of the four players selected," Aces General Manager Justin Huber said. "We have a program that is working here in Melbourne. It is an honour to have four representatives of the Aces selected to play for Team Australia in the World Baseball Classic qualifier."

Harman, a former Major League infielder for the Philadelphia Phillies, played in 40 games this season with a team-high 30 walks. Beresford, a Minor League prospect in the Minnesota Twins organisation who spent last season with Triple-A Rochester, hit .286 (12-for-42) with three runs batted in for the Aces in 10 games.

Gibbons, another Twins prospect, started three games in the final month of the ABL season, posting a 0-1 record with a 4.66 ERA (5 ER in 9.2 IP). Moylan, a Major League veteran who recently signed a Minor League contract with the Kansas City Royals, pitched a scoreless, hitless inning for the Aces on 15 January against Brisbane and struck out one batter.

The tournament will be played from 11 February to 14 February at Blacktown International Sportspark. The winner of the qualifier, which features Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, and South Africa, will advance to compete in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
