SYDNEY - Sweet-swinging slugging and dominant relief pitching proved the difference-makers in the Round 12 weekly award winners. Sydney Blue Sox first baseman Rhys Hoskins and righthander Ryan Searle, of the Brisbane Bandits, proudly presented by WellDog, are this week's Delta Air Lines Players of the Week.

Philadelphia Phillies prospect Hoskins has been a force out in the middle of the Sydney lineup. Despite the Blue Sox 1-3 series loss the Bandits, Hoskins hit .444 (8-for-18) with six RBIs and six runs scored. Four of his eight hits were for extra bases, and three of those four extra base hits left the ballpark for home runs. The 22-year-old also posted a .500 on base percentage and slugged 1.000 en route to his third Player of the Week award, after earning the honour in Rounds 2 and 7.

Hoskins his hitting .321 in 43 games on the season, and also ranks near the top of the RBI (38 - t-2nd) and home run (8 - t-4th) leaderboards. Sydney ballplayers have won a weekly award seven times this season, second only to the Cavalry's ten winners. The Blue Sox remain just one game out of a playoff spot in fourth place on the league ladder, and travel to Canberra this weekend for four games.

On the other side of the ball, Searle had another strong weekend for the ladder-leading Bandits, going 1-0 in two shutout appearances spanning five innings. He allowed just three hits in those five innings, and struck out three batters while walking two (and one intentionally) as Brisbane won their homestand 3-1. Though Brisbane scored enough runs in the club's three wins last weekend to eliminate the save situation, converted starter Searle has become a master of the late innings, leading the league with 13 saves on the season. His season total is just two shy of the ABL season record of 15, set by former Blue Sox reliever Matt Williams in the 2012/13 season.

Searle also leads all pitchers this season with an 0.23 ERA in 26 relief appearances, along with a 4-2 record. The weekly award is his third in six ABL seasons, after taking home the honour first in Round 8 of the 2013/14 season and the first round of the 2014/15 campaign. The Bandits maintain a three-game lead over the Cavalry on the league ladder, and will spend Round 13 on the road in Melbourne.

The second-to-last round of the regular season begins this Thursday, 14 January, with games hosted in Canberra, Melbourne and Perth. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online or by calling the respective team front offices. Games can be followed live on Gameday,, and the Sunday series finale between Adelaide and Perth will be broadcast live on ESPN Australia/New Zealand, Fox Sports Asia and MLB Network.
