CANBERRA, 1 January - It was a start to the 2016 that the Alcohol. Think Again Perth Heat were looking for as the game headed to the bottom of the 9th. With just 3 outs required, Perth looked like a road win was on the cards as they held a 2 run lead.

It all lined up perfectly. Detroit Tigers prospect, Warwick Saupold was on the hill to close it out, they had an insurance run if one got away, but this is Baseball.

With the first pitch of the 9th inning, Toronto Blue Jays prospect, Canberra's Jason Leblebijian sent a ball high a deep to right field to cut Perth's lead to 1. With a runner on for the Cavs, Los Angeles Dodgers prospect, Canberra's Jack Murphy came to the plate.

Murphy would break the hearts of the Heat faithful with a ball deep to Centre Field that would end the game and see the Cavalry 'Walk Off Winners' with a 9-7 win.

Perth's starting pitcher, Edwin Carl was impressive through 3 innings, looking every bit the Ace. in the 4th it was a totally different story as Carl missed his spots and allowed the Cavalry to score 5 and set up a dominate lead.

The Heat would show plenty of heart in the 8th, scoring 4. After a hitting a Home Run in the 7th to left field, Heat star slugger, Allan De San Miguel, once again came up big again with a timely double to centre, scoring two and allowing the Heat to get the go ahead late in the ball game.

But as the box score would say, the Perth bull pen now earn their 6th blown save for the season and once again go close, but not close enough to gaining the win.

The Heat now move to 18-24 for the season. The loss means the Heat's first series win of the season will have to be put on ice until next weekend as a split is now the best outcome from this series.

Perth are now 8 games out of 1st place and 4 games out of a play off position with 14 games remaining for season 2015/16.

Box Score:

Winning Pitcher: Michael Click (Canberra)   Losing Pitcher: Warwick Saupold (Perth)
