SYDNEY, 1 January - Entering in to the latter third of the ABL season, the Alcohol. Think Again Perth Heat are actively representing their name, winning five of their last eight games. Spearheading the series win were several key players, whose performances in Round 9 earned them the Delta Air Lines Players of the Week awards. Starting pitcher Mike McClendon and catcher Allan de San Miguel are this week's honourees.

Kickstarting Round 9 on the mound on 27 December, McClendon dominated Aces hitters, tossing seven shutout innings and allowing just five hits. He struck out six batters and walked none as the Heat ignited at the plate, cruising to an 11-0 series-opening win. After joining the Heat roster a few weeks ago, McClendon now boasts a 2-0 record in two starts, and has yet to allow an earned run this season. He's also struck out 19 batters in 20 innings pitched, and has an impressive 0.90 season WHIP.

Meanwhile, both at the plate and behind it, de San Miguel continued to show consistency as one of the longtime leaders of the Heat. He hit .500 in 12 at bats in Round 9, with two doubles and one home run. De San Miguel also drove in six batters, including Luke Hughes on a double to in the bottom of the ninth inning in the series finale, leading Perth to an 8-7 walk-off victory. With the win, the Heat took three of four games from the Aces, and now have sole possession of third place on the ABL ladder.

Perth travels to Brisbane this weekend to take on the second-place Bandits in a four-game series to start the New Year. The series could have an impact on the shape of the ABL ladder moving forward, since the two teams sit just one game apart in third and second places, respectively, after Round 9.

Tickets are still available for all Round 10 games and can be purchased online at TheABL.com.au/tickets
