SYDNEY, 10 December - The fourth annual Australian Baseball League All-Star Game, presented by Levi's®, is just one week away, so it seems fitting that a pair of Aussie All-Stars earned the Delta Air Lines Players of the Week awards for the sixth round of regular season play. Dominant pitching and strong, consistent offence propelled young hurler Sam Gibbons of the Jet Couriers Melbourne Aces and veteran infielder Stefan Welch of the Adelaide Bite, proudly presented the SA Power Networks, to the pedestal of weekly award winners.

The Bite, who sit tied for the top spot in the ABL standings with the Brisbane Bandits, proudly, presented by Welldog, took three games of a four-game set from the Canberra Elite Cavalry last weekend in Adelaide, extending their season-high five-game win streak to five games before falling in the series finale. Welch shone in the second game of the series, going 3-for-4 as the Bite beat the Cavalry 7-4, and was a bright spot in the team's Game 4 loss, when he went 2-for-4 at the plate and slammed an eighth-inning solo shot that gave temporarily gave Adelaide back the lead. Welch finished the weekend hitting .438 in his 16 at bats, with one home run and two RBIs.

Meanwhile in Melbourne Gibbons was lights-out in his start against the Alcohol. Think Again Perth Heat, tossing seven innings of shutout baseball, allowing two hits and walking one while striking out five batters. He earned his second win of the season as the Aces beat the Heat 2-1 on Friday night, 5 December. Gibbons now has a 2-0 season record, with a 1.29 ERA and 0.64 WHIP in two starts since returning to the Aces after playing for the Australian national team in the inaugural U21 Baseball World Cup in Taiwan earlier this year.

Both Gibbons and Welch will suit up for Team Australia in the 2014 ABL All-Star Game, held at Melbourne Ballpark on 17 December. The fourth annual event pits Team Australia against Team World, and will feature a pregame concert by local indie rock band Kingswood.

Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at Gates open at 5:30pm, with the concert at 6:30pm and first pitch scheduled for 7:40pm.
