2014-15 Cavalry Roster Announced
10/22/2014 9:26 PM ET

Baseball season is here and the Cavalry are excited to announce their 2014-15 roster. CEO Donn McMichael is confident that the Cavalry will shine on the field this season, with the mixture of Australian and import talent brought in. "We are very excited about the roster we have been able to assemble for the upcoming season. The roster, combined with the return of Coach Michael Collins and the organisation's success these past few years, sets the Cavalry up to produce a very successful season." McMichael said.

The Canberra Cavalry have continued their relationship with the Toronto Blue Jays organisation signing four affiliates to the roster this season. Joining the returning fan favourite Jack Murphy on the field will be LB Dantzler, Christian Lopes and Anthony Alford. We are also excited to add Philadelphia Phillies affiliate, third baseman Mitch Walding.

The Cavalry look forward to developing the four Australians they picked up in the first ever ABL draft. Pitcher Tristan Crawford, the Cavalry's first pick in the draft, looks to add a strong arm to the team, while Adam Silva will be a strong addition to the Cavalry outfield. Also picked up in this year's draft were ABL newcomers Kieran Bradford and Scott Hillier.

The Cavalry are also pleased to announce Pitcher Brian Grening will be returning for his fourth season with the Cavalry. Joining Grening in the bullpen this season are unaffiliated imports; Dustin Crenshaw, AJ Holland, Ian Marshall, Gabriel Hernandez and Jake Brown, filling out the bullpen this season are Australian talents; Steven Kent, Aaron Thompson, Tim Atherton and Wayne Ough. The Cavalry believe that the dynamic mixture of imports and Australian players picked up in the off-season will make their bullpen extremely effective.

Also arriving in the Capital for the first time are unaffiliated import Marcus Lemon who will fill the shortstop position and utility player Alex Hudak from the Lexington Legends. Also adding to the strong outfield this season is one of the top Australian prospects, Todd McDonald who made quite a name for himself early on signing his first major league deal at just seventeen.

Completing this year's roster are local boys Aaron Sloan, Jason Sloan and Robbie Perkins. 20-year-old Perkins has been a standout from the Canberra system over the past few years and has recently returned after putting another year of professional ball under his belt and the Cavalry will be looking to him to excel behind the plate.

The Cavalry are also extremely pleased to have Coach Michael Collins leading the charge for his third season.

Assistant GM Max Viney thinks with the young Australian potential picked up in the off season and the strong talent brought in with the imports the Cavalry are set to field another strong team this season. "We feel like we did a great job of recruiting young talented Australians that will be a key asset for the Cavalry going forward. In addition to the more experienced players we have imported, like Jack Murphy and Brian Grening, we are confident that we have created a great balance between the new talent and seasoned veterans. Our starting rotation is shaping up to be excellent with the addition of Tristan Crawford, Jake Brown, Brian Grening and Tim Atherton. Steven Kent is out for the beginning of the season with an injury but with him returning later in the season, the team should be sitting pretty well for the playoff stretch. With an injury free year the Cavalry hope to be one of the top contenders in the ABL this season." said Viney.

It is shaping up to be an exciting season down at the Fort and hopefully the team will be able to match last year's performance, when they made it to the grand final but lost against Perth Heat. With the added talent to this season's roster the Cavalry look to perform well on the field and have a shot at clinching the ABL Grand Final for the second time.
