USA, 30 March - The Detroit Tigers have assigned Perth native and Alcohol. Think Again Perth Heat righty Warwick Saupold to AA Erie of the Eastern League to start the season. Saupold will return to AA for a second season as he continues to provide depth for the Tigers as a starter and is set to get the opening day nod for the Seawolves.

"Wazza" was named the Tigers AA pitcher of the year following a breakout season in 2013 for Erie. Saupold posted 7-6 record but it was his impressive ERA of 3.28 in 129.0 IP that led the Erie club and helped Erie reach the post season.

Saupold made 22 starts in AA for Erie his first season as a full time starter after being a reliever in his first two stops for the Tigers system. Saupold has a career 11-9 record in the MiLB with a 3.22 ERA over the past 2 seasons including improving upon his high A numbers from the Florida State League. He went from a 3.77 ERA in 2012 to a 3.28 and set a career high in innings adding to his durability and ability to contribute for the Tigers.

The Seawolves open the season at Altoona (Pittsburgh Pirates) Thursday April 3rd with Saupold set to take the hill in the season opener. In a side note former Sydney Blue Sox Keon Broxton will be in the other dugout for the Curve as he was assigned to AA by the Pirates after being acquired via a trade with Arizona Thursday in the states.

"Wazza" and the Seawolves follow up their four game series in Altoona with a three game series with Binghamton (New York Mets) where Saupold would be the starter in game two Tuesday April 8th. Erie will open their home schedule on April 10th against the Trenton Thunder (New York Yankees) and if form holds Saupold will make his home season debut on April 13th against the Thunder.

In another twist for Heat fans 12-13 Heat alum of "Save a Horse" fame Michael Ohlman was assigned to AA Bowie by Baltimore. After the Seawolves host Trenton guess who rolls to Erie? That is right Bowie! It would take a rain out or worse snow which you can neve rule out in the northeast in the states this time of year to get a head to head matchup. That could move Warwick back where he could face Michael in a Heat reunion? Better check the weather channel!
